Last night Chicago played at the Pinewood Bowl Amphitheater in Lincoln, Nebraska. A gift from
my dear friend, Gator, this ticket represented a 49-year dream come true.
The day after my high school graduation in 1972, I was off to live with my grandparents in Santa
Fe and work my very first real job. Unfortunately, the shop owner’s husband got nervous about
having a commitment to pay an employee for their new shop. I was let go after my first day of
work. Stunned, and with the bit of money I had earned that day, I bought a Chicago album. My
grandparents were not happy with my purchase, but the music soothed me and brought me
joy.
Last night had the same soothing joyful effect. Music can easily transport me to a specific
moment, to a place of hope, or to one of pure appreciative joy in the very present moment. The
lyrics to “Colour My World” made me reflect on some loves, choices, and paths. I felt like I was
18 when we danced. Looking around, I laughed seeing we kids of the 60’ and 70’s waving cell
phone lights in the air. Thanks for the Chicago journey, Gator!
